This is the official facebook page for Hon Roger Cook MLA, Minister for Health and Mental Health Elected to the Thirty-Eighth Parliament for Kwinana (new seat) on 6 September 2008. About Roger Hon. Roger Cook MLA is the Deputy Premier of Western Australia. With oversight of two key portfolios in health and mental health, Roger has been a member of the Legislative Assembly since 2008, representing the seat of Kwinana. Prior to entering politics Roger studied Arts and Public Administration at Murdoch University before completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Relations and a Master of Business Administration at Curtin University. He was active in campus politics and established the National Union of Students as its first National President. After completing his studies Roger worked for a number of Federal and State Members of Parliament including Jim McGinty, Stephen Smith and Senator Chris Evans in policy and electorate officer roles. Roger is passionate about Aboriginal issues and served as the Chief Executive Officer of a number of Aboriginal Land Councils, along with a communications role assisting industry and government to reach agreement with Aboriginal Native Title groups. He was previously the National President of Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation. Roger is a strong advocate for health and fitness, competing in regular triathlons, marathons and rides for muscular dystrophy along with the walk for diabetes. He is an avid supporter of the Western Force and Fremantle Dockers. Roger Cook was born and raised in Western Australia. He lives with his wife Carly in Wellard, and has two adult children. Roger is actively involved and supports local sporting clubs including : Kwinana Darts Kwinana Junior Knights Football Club Kwinana Senior Football Club Kwinana Little Athletics Club Kwinana Judo Kwinana Softball Club And many more Roger works closely with local community organisations and environmental organisations including - The Friends of Wellard Bushland Medina Residents Group Wandi Progress Association Riding for the Disabled Baldivis Community Association Rivergums Residents Group And many more Roger fights to protect feeding and breeding areas for the native Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo’s. Roger serves on a range of local community and school organisations. He was previously the National President of Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation, Australia’s biggest Indigenous rights organisation. Roger also served as State President of the Australian Labor Party in Western Australia from 1999-2000. Hobbies Roger is an avid supporter of the Western Force and Fremantle Dockers. He is also a strong advocate for healthy living and fitness, competing in triathlons and bike rides throughout the year. Roger has done two Busselton Half Iron Man competitions and has signed up to do the ‘Busso half’ for a third time in 2013. Roger rides for muscular dystrophy. Roger is also a champion of walk for diabetes. Roger is local and active, and a willing advocate for individuals, communities and business in Kwinana. His door is always open.
